Möbius Bag

2002, 2012

The Möbius Bag features scored-&-folded box construction and a continuous leather strap, which functions structurally to tension, keeping the bag’s front flap securely closed and protecting the bag’s contents when worn across the body.

As the Möbius Bag is laser-cut out of full-grain belt-weight Latigo Leather* into a continuous sheet, careful layout on the cowhide is required to avoid the inclusion of defects and maximize the yield. A “side of hide” (half of a cow) generally yields four Möbius Bags, with a mix of large and small bags, depending on the size of the animal. Occasionally, multiple brands are on the hide, so incorporating and featuring a brand becomes necessary to minimize waste and honor the animal.

*Latigo Leather is a tanning process that utilizes both vegetable and chrome tanning to obtain its strength, deep & uniform coloration, and sheen and water-resistance quality. The hides are first vegetable-tanned, which involves using natural tannins extracted from plant materials. This process gives the leather its initial strength and rigidity and prepares it to absorb dyes effectively, resulting in rich, uniform colors. After vegetable tanning, the leather undergoes chrome tanning, which uses chromium salts to soften the material and enhance its flexibility. It also adds water-resistant properties to the leather, making it more suitable for outdoor applications. For the above properties, Latigo Leather is frequently chosen for equestrian gears, belts, and holsters.
