Event & art installations allow for a more conceptual approach, especially with their Impermanence; they encourage innovative use of material and layering of meaningful acts without the burden of functionality and durability. Furniture design and fabrication, while it requires function and durability, its mobility stimulates the consideration of future site conditions or an array of domestic scenarios. With smaller projects often come smaller budgets and tighter schedules, which in turn encourage self-performance and in-house fabrication. This hands-on approach fosters creativity and problem-solving, as design and construction are intertwined and embedded in every stage of the process. Through these experiences, members of Yeh Design Lab not only hone their craft but also gather invaluable insights (through success and mistakes) and skills that enrich our ability to engage or even lead architectural studios in the academic setting as well as larger-scale construction in the architectural practice.
